Robert Rathbone joined the choir at St Mary’s parish church in Merton Park at the age of 17, took up the organ and went on to read music at Royal Holloway College, London.  After graduating, he held posts as organist and choirmaster at three London churches before being appointed Director of Music at the Sacred Heart Church, Wimbledon.   In addition to directing the choir at the weekly sung Latin Mass, Bob conducts annual performances of major choral works including Elgar’s Dream of Gerontius in 2018 and Bach’s B-minor Mass this year.  Bob taught music at Wimbledon College from 1980 to 2017 and was Director of Music from 1984-2013.  He now works as a freelance organist and accompanist.  He is Musical Director the Edge Hill Players in Wimbledon and is working on a production of Singin’ in the Rain complete with umbrella as baton.
