The New Testament

Brian Purfield gives a set of study days on the New Testament authors.

Beginning with a couple of texts from the Gospel or from Paul, participants will have a chance to read, discuss and comment upon the texts. We will then consider a series of questions: where does the author begin his Gospel and how does this shape the story that he tells? How does the author picture Jesus and how does he portray the disciples? Who are models of discipleship in this Gospel? Who wrote this Gospel? Where and when was it written? Why was it written?

To conclude the day, we will reflect on what the message of this Gospel might be for us today. What lasting values emerge from the text which can be the subject of our personal and public prayer?
