Biblical Models of Prayer

Hands clasped in prayer on a bible, with a candle for light

A chance to understand the Scriptures and an opportunity to reflect on the lives of six biblical figures and on particular moments of prayer in their lives. It is hoped that the Scripture readings chosen are an opportunity for the Spirit of God to lead us more deeply into prayer.

Each session has an excerpt from Scripture with the some questions for guidance. Each week a particular biblical character and theme is explored:

    Week 1: Hannah: A Childless Wife’s Anguish (1 Samuel 1-2)
Week 2: David: Crimes and Repentance (2 Samuel 11-12; Psalm 51:1-12)
    Week 3: Jeremiah: A Prophet Wrestles with God (Jeremiah 12; 15; 17; 20)
Week 4: Nehemiah: Praying for Success (Nehemiah 1:1 – 2:18)
Week 5: Mary of Nazareth: My Soul Magnifies the Lord (Luke 1:26-56)
Week 6: Paul: Shipwreck! (Acts 27)

Further questions help indiciduals reflect on how to apply what has been learned to their own situation and some suggestions for prayer to help them respond to God’s word.

Each session has a Scriptural reading with questions, a presentation, and an audio recording.
