... in a tea-room

Cups and saucers and a tea pot

It was a typical English late-spring day. Many of us had seized upon the early morning sunshine as a promising sign of summer but now it was raining heavily.

I was sitting in the crowded tea-room of a stately home as the windows misted up. There were a couple of coach parties seeking refuge and some young toddlers beginning to get fractious in their buggies.

I could sense the general mood in the room starting to deteriorate towards despondency when God intervened for me with typical humour.

I spotted a very smiley lady across the room; she was helping her disabled husband towards a seat which she must have requested earlier and she just looked happy. In front of her, on the table, a card read:

Reserved for Joy.

I returned to the rain, thanking God for the reminder!
