‘Where I am going you cannot follow me now; you will follow me later.’

 John 13:36

In his words to his disciples at the Passover meal, Jesus is giving his final teaching and making his farewells. Peter senses trouble. He wants to know where Jesus is going. He wants to go with him, and wants to lay down his life for Jesus. Jesus knows how enthusiastic Peter can be in faith, but he also knows Peter has to go deeper in the journey of faith. Can I go deeper? Would I deny Jesus? Yes, every time I neglect a person in need, I deny Jesus and I miss an invitation to see the face of Jesus. I lose another chance to experience self-giving love. Forgive me Lord. Let me see you more clearly, follow you more dearly, day by day, until I am called to go where you are going.
