Hosanna! Blessings on him who comes in the name of the Lord!

Let us pray for a closer union with Christ in this holy season.

Almighty, ever-living God, you have given the human race Jesus Christ our Saviour as a model of humility. He fulfilled your will by becoming man and giving his life on the cross.

Help us to bear witness to you by following his example.

The Lord comes to my help, so that I am untouched by the insults.
1st reading—Isaiah 50

He emptied himself to assume the condition of a slave and became as men are.
2nd reading—Philippians 2

Christ was humbler yet, even to accepting death, death on a cross. But God raised him high and gave him a name which is above all names
2nd reading

Every tongue should acclaim Jesus Christ as Lord.
2nd reading

“Hosanna! Blessings on him who comes in the name of the Lord!”

I go to my chosen place of prayer, no matter how much or little time I have. I become quiet and read the Opening Prayer once or twice, then I put it down and recall some of the words or phrases which seem to touch me, pondering over each one in turn.

I now consider Jesus Christ as a model of humility. What does it mean to me to be humble?

The world often mistakes humility for weakness, however St Paul tells us “It is when I am weak that I am strong.” 2 Corinthians 12: 10

When I feel ready, I ask the Lord to show me in what ways I can more effectively bear witness to him. Speak, Lord, your servant is listening.
