5th Sunday of Easter Year B
Let us pray that we may enjoy true freedom
God, our Father, look upon us with love.
You redeem us and make us your children in Christ.
Give us true freedom and bring us to the inheritance you promised.
Make your home in me, as I make mine in you.
Give us voice to sing your praise throughout this Easter season.
Our love is not to be just words or mere talk, but something real and active.
1 John 3
We know that he lives in us by the Spirit that he has given us.
1 John 3
I am the vine, you are the branches … cut off from me you can do nothing.
Slowly and reverently, I begin my prayer asking for a childlike trust in God.
Perhaps I recall the time since I last prayed; for what do I find myself grateful?
What is it that I recall that leaves me unhappy, anxious, regretful?
I speak about both types of experiences to my God who loves me as I am.
During this week, as I pray this prayer, I could give thanks particularly for the utterly free gift of redemption – God’s total forgiveness; the new life that comes to me through Christ in baptism.
And I may find myself asking for ‘true freedom’ – the ability and determination always to do what deep down I know is right.
As always, I end my prayer slowly, simply, and reverently trusting in God.
