Novenas
A novena[1] is a series of nine prayers which can be prayed privately or publicly (i.e. in church) for nine successive days for a specific purpose. The purpose is usually a special church feast e.g. Novena to the Sacred Heart, a group petition Novena e.g. for those in distress such as refugees, or to pray for someone who has recently died.
Praying a novena helps us keep special intentions in mind and helps us notice God at work in the world.
[1] from Latin: Novem, meaning Nine
