Offering to follow in your footsteps

Footprints in sand
Jesus
Lord and leader
Who chose to save humankind
Not through the power of your omnipotence
Nor the wonder of your miracles
Nor the splendour of your Godhead
But rather through the poverty of your birth
The humility and obedience of your life
And the ignominy and pain of your death
May I never forget
That the disciple cannot be greater than the master
And that any sincere follower of yours
Will gladly follow in your footsteps
Considering it a privilege and honour
To live in actual poverty as you did
To be counted worthy to suffer injuries and insults in your name
And to be deemed a fool in the eyes of the world for your sake.
