Journey into Freedom Day 41
Preparation: Begin by stilling, then dedicating the time of prayer to God and asking God that all you think, feel and imagine are for the glory of God.
Gift: Today we change the grace we ask for as we enter the ‘third week’ of the Spiritual Exercises. I ask now for sorrow and shame as I enter with Christ in his suffering for my sins.
Setting: Imagine yourself at the Last Supper, the first Eucharist, as the disciples and Jesus begin to celebrate the Passover. You could be someone preparing the room, or one of the men or women followers of Jesus. What do you make of what he says and does?
Mark 14:12-16 & 22-26 HCSB
On the first day of Unleavened Bread, when they sacrifice the Passover lamb, Jesus’ disciples asked Him, “Where do You want us to go and prepare the Passover so You may eat it?”
So He sent two of His disciples and told them, “Go into the city, and a man carrying a water jug will meet you. Follow him. Wherever he enters, tell the owner of the house, ‘The Teacher says, “Where is the guest room for Me to eat the Passover with My disciples?”’ He will show you a large room upstairs, furnished and ready. Make the preparations for us there.” So the disciples went out, entered the city, and found it just as He had told them, and they prepared the Passover.
As they were eating, He took bread, blessed and broke it, gave it to them, and said, “Take it; this is My body.”
Then He took a cup, and after giving thanks, He gave it to them, and so they all drank from it. He said to them, “This is My blood that establishes the covenant; it is shed for many. I assure you: I will no longer drink of the fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it in a new way in the kingdom of God.” After singing psalms, they went out to the Mount of Olives.
Follow the meditation on Scripture with a conversation with God and a Final Prayer.
A Thought for Today: If a person has the answer to every question - that is the proof that God is not with him. It means that he is a false prophet using religion for himself. The great leaders of the people of God, like Moses, have always left room for doubt. You must leave room for the Lord, not for our certainties; we must be humble. - Pope Francis
You blessed the cup,
Gave thanks to God, And passed the cup
Among those who sat at table;
Each took the cup, and raised it up
To catch your eye
And nervously they spoke
The customary greeting: ‘Long life to you!’
They drank your health in the blood you’d shed,
Whilst they shredded the bread, You had made your own,
And ate the life You gave away.
