Day 3 | 31 days of St Ignatius 2018

Painting 'The Unbelief of St Thomas' by Andrei Mironov. Jesus stands looking at us, his wounds visible

AMDG

In the Spiritual Exercises, St Ignatius gives us the idea of meeting sacred scripture with one's own life, mediated through Imaginative Contemplation. The aim of this reflection is to do this in tandem with a piece of art. We offer a painting in the hope that it will enable you to reflect more deeply on a particular passage of scripture. The idea is that you can return to the painting and scripture and discover more depth.

Listen to this introduction to praying with art to begin.

Today is the Feast of St Thomas, so we delve into this painting by Russian artist Andrei Mironov.  Are we like Thomas? Is Jesus the centre of my life? Do we feel the Lord is expressing the same feelings and emotions towards us?

The scripture passage for this painting is John 20: 24–29
