Day 11 - Call
Day 11 - listen here
Jeremiah 1: 4-9
And the word of the Lord came to me, saying,
‘Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you;
and before you came out from your mother, I consecrated you;
I appointed you prophet to the nations.’
And I said, ‘Lord and Master, look!
I do not know how to speak, for I am too young.’
And the Lord said to me, ‘Don’t say “I am too young”;
you are to go to all those to whom I shall send you,
and you are to speak in every respect as I order you.
Do not be afraid before them, for I am with you, to rescue you,’ says the Lord.
Then the Lord stretched out his hand to me;
and he touched my mouth, and the Lord said,
‘Look! I have put my words in your mouth.'
Before I was even conceived, God thought about me. He held me in his mind. Then in the meeting of my parents’ DNA, in my mother’s womb, God formed me. His touch lay behind all the processes of nutrition and growth.
If this is true, then I am not an accident. I am God’s special idea, his personal intention. I am God’s living and breathing sculpture. I can relax into God my Creator like a baby in its mother’s arms.
God “appointed me” for a destiny that He had marked out beforehand. And then, when I was old enough to understand, He began to share that purpose with me. Does this alarm me? Do his purposes seem too big, am I as small and inadequate as an infant? I was unconscious when he formed me, but now I feel him stretch out his hand and touch me. I am his utterance, but now he puts his words into my mouth. He made me as his own design, but now wants me to speak out his plans to others.
My memory does not go back beyond a few years. I cannot remember my own birth, or the months in my mother’s womb.
But I believe that even before my conception you held me in mind.
And if you made me from nothing you retain the knowledge and strength to guide me.
Help me to hear your call without fear. Share with me the purpose for which I was created.
I can go, if you go with me. I can speak, if you put your own words into my mouth.
