Mindfulness - With Body and Soul
Mindfulness is having a wonderful revival in our time, but it is not new to humanity! Deep within the Christian tradition is what has been called the Sacrament of the Present Moment, the belief that the present moment is a sacrament from God, an encounter with God who is present everywhere and fills all things. But we have largely lost our sense of this and walk through the world without recognising that God is in fact sharing God’s own life with us in and through all things.
Mindfulness as understood today builds on our God given human ability to be fully present to the moment, cultivating awareness of where we are and what we’re doing. (Most of us are almost all of the time thinking about the past or the future). It is an innate God given quality that every human being already possesses. It is not something that we have to do extra, it is not something we have to add onto our daily living, it is simply about being present to what is. But that is something that we need to cultivate.
Simple practices benefit not only ourselves and our loved ones, but everyone we interact with. It brings awareness and caring into everything we do.
