Introduction to Spiritual Accompaniment - Online Course
The aim of this course – which will take place via Zoom for the first time – is to help participants grow in listening and speaking in a discerning way, in formal and informal contexts.
The course will help to deepen the qualities of listening and speaking in a variety of circumstances whether in person or online. We will introduce some of the skills and sensitivities necessary for spiritual direction although the course by itself does not provide sufficient training for people to offer spiritual direction. It will offer the opportunity to discern how each participant is being called to use their gifts in accompanying others in their own context.
The course is therefore suitable for a wide range of people: those who work in pastoral settings (hospitals, chaplaincies, prisons, in ministry) and those who are simply interested in life-giving conversations at depth with others.
The course includes listening skills, discernment of spirits, a model of Ignatian accompaniment and ways of praying. Each participant will be supported by a personal tutor. There will be a variety of ways of working individually and as a group, including observed practice – all via Zoom.
- Commitment to one’s own prayer life
- To be receiving spiritual direction by the time the course starts
- To be available for the dates and committed to all elements of the course
- Sufficient IT skills and equipment to use Zoom
