Is there more to see than meets the eye when we watch a good movie? What effect does our seeing have on us? Does our taste in film have anything to teach us? Does God come into the picture? This themed retreat will explore a particular way of engaging with cinema: looking at films through the lens of Ignatian spirituality.

Rather than providing theory or analysing with our intellect, this retreat will focus mindfully on our whole-person engagement with films, drawing on wisdom from the ancient spiritual tradition built upon by St Ignatius of Loyola. What more is there to see when we begin to look closely not only at the screen but inwards at ourselves: at what our seeing stirs in us emotionally, imaginatively, physically, spiritually?

The retreat will offer space for watching a variety of films, old and new, with input and guided reflection on what you see. This reflection will be individual and collective, with sharing in small groups at a level with which you feel comfortable.  It will be a talking retreat with opportunities for individual quiet and enjoyment of the silence of the house and its beautiful natural surroundings in the Vale of Clwyd.

NB Please note that this is a themed retreat not an Individually Guided Retreat so you will not be assigned a spiritual director."
